Raised in Leeuwarden, I came to Leiden three years ago to study world religions. Before that I got my diploma at the Christian Gymnasium Beyers Naudé. My high school days were filled with music (I played guitar in a band), reading (philosophy and religion mainly), many walks through nearby nature, and my gradual introduction to Buddhism. It was the discovery and deepening of that affinity that left meor World religions in Leiden made a choice - enough space to build up a program that is interesting for me. However, academic study was not the only way I further explored Buddhism. The summer before I started in Leiden, after a vacation in China, I spent four weeks in the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas (CTTB) in California; the following summer I was there for two months. I also remained personally involved in Leiden and in the past year I enjoyed organizing the weekly Buddhism and meditation at the Ekklesia and in that way I became further involved with the Ekklesia. Now that I have almost received my Bachelor's degree, I am back in the US. This time for roughly six months. Far away from home and on a journey to another world. Despite my absence, the meditation group will continue and I will remain virtually involved in the coming year from the monastic community and then traveling through Asia.
